Devizes CCTV
CCTV at risk of closure
02/08/11 - NEWS UPDATE - Devizes Town Council have agreed to step in to cover 1/2 the annual cost, which will keep the system running until March 2012.
Devizes Chamber of Commerce, Devizes Town Council, Devizes Development Partnership (DDP), Kennet Branch of the Federation of Small Businesses and the Devizes Community Area Safety Committee (DCASC) have joined forces to communicate the CCTV funding problem and coordinate the collection of funds.
If the CCTV system is to keep going we need to find an additional £11,000 per year by September 1st 2011. Local businesses are being asked to make up this shortfall as no other sources of funding are available. The suggested contribution from small, medium and larger businesses is £10pm, £20pm and £30+pm respectively.
So far the following businesses have kindly agreed to fund the CCTV on an ongoing basis:

Further information:
Since CCTV was introduced to the town incidents of vandalism, criminal damage, shop lifting and anti-social behaviour have been reduced by a third. This has been achieved through proactive co-operation between and communication with the CCTV Control Room, the Storenet Radios, the Police and other agencies. This has done much to improve the feeling of wellbeing and safety within the town, Until recently the system, run by the DDP, has been jointly funded by Devizes Town Council and the former Kennet District Council with donations from some local businesses. Wiltshire Council has declined to continue with financial support. The Town Council has agreed to continue supporting up to 50% of the overall costs on a matched funding basis. The system costs £22,000 a year to run (the most economic in the County). It is run by a paid part-time manager and staffed by volunteers. To keep it operational on a sustained basis we need to raise £11,000 a year. If we do not the system will be switched off in September. You can help by agreeing to make a small regular contribution per month.
